What started a senior project 11 years ago for Kyle Capin has grown into an annual event that brings over 350 special needs kids and their helpers from local school districts to the Sweetwater Events Center for a day of fishing and fun. Kyle loved to fish while growing up, and 11 years ago, his friends in special needs classes at Harrison High School loved hearing his stories about going to area fishing tournaments.

When Capin's friends told him about how they wished they could go fishing, too, a senior project was born. Eleven years later, Catchin' with Capin is now an every-year happening for special needs children throughout the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corp.

"We put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into it every year, just to make sure these kids have an amazing day," said Kimberly Capin, Kyle's wife. Kim has worked at Cash-Pro, Inc. for the last 5 years.

Standing nearly 7 feet tall, Kyle is an asset manager with the Water Department of the Evansville Water & Sewer Utility. He said he never could have dreamed a high school project would still be going strong after 11 years.

"It's gotten a lot bigger than I ever anticipated," Capin said. "It's a lot of work on the front side. A lot of it gets old. But when you come here and see the reaction on the kids' faces, it's all worth it.
